
As the Mayor of the City of Fairbanks, and on behalf of the Fairbanks City Council, I want to welcome you to the City of Fairbanks website.
The City Mayor is elected to a three-year term and is the executive and administrative officer of the City of Fairbanks. The Mayor is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the goals, objectives, programs and activities of the City through subordinate department heads.
The City Mayor presides at the meetings of the City Council and is the recognized head of City government for all ceremonial purposes. The Mayor has the power of veto over ordinances and resolutions only, the power of pardon for violation of city ordinances, and votes only in the case of numerical ties.
The Mayor executes and enforces all ordinances, resolutions, and motions which have been passed by Council and carries out all contracts into which the City has entered; executes deeds and other documents on behalf of the City, and nominates all members to boards and commissions of the City, subject to Council confirmation.
The Mayor may also serve as Personnel Officer of the City and has the power to appoint and remove officers and employees of the City, and may delegate a department head the power to appoint and remove officers and employees within that department. The Mayor makes recommendations to the Council.
