The charge of the Public Works Department is to provide responsive, cost-effective and environmentally sound infrastructural services, established by the City Council, to the residents of the City of Fairbanks.

This department's 35 permanent employees and seasonal temporary employees perform some of the most visible and important functions in the City. In order to contribute to the physical, social and economic growth of the City of Fairbanks, Public Works delivers the maximum value for roads, drainage networks, residential solid waste collection (to ensure a healthy environment), and maintenance of City-owned buildings and equipment.

Understanding that what we do today will affect generations to come drives our employees to go beyond their normal work assignments to improve our City. This is accomplished through the proactive and innovative management of resources, teamwork, and a highly skilled and motivated work force.
